POSITION SUMMARY:

HIAS Europe seeks a Finance Manager to lead the day-to-day accounting operations. The incumbent will lead the month-end closing process and help to maintain the balance sheet accounts. This position will maintain accurate database/records on all financial transactions and ensure these are appropriately coded, accurate and up-to-date. The Manager will work with HQ Finance staff as well as support Finance staff in affiliated Country Offices. This position will also complete the financial process by performing corresponding financial analysis, follow-up and reporting to support the operation with timely and accurate financial information.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Reconciles HIAS Europe bank accounts.
  • Performs amortization entries.
  • Maintains prepaid and accrual accounts.
  • Oversees and reconciles intercompany transactions.
  • Oversees and reconciles indirect costs.
  • Oversees revenue recognition.
  • Performs month-end closing reports and processes.
  • Oversees payroll and benefit allocation.
  • Processes reclass entries.
  • Assists in statutory audit project audits in Brussels and affiliated Country Offices.
  • Leads special projects.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS & REQUIREMENTS:

  • Undergraduate degree in Accounting or Finance required; graduate degree preferred.
  • 4-6 years of work experience in an accounting or finance position with accounting and budgeting responsibilities, and at least 3 years in a Belgian or European NGO or related field.
  • Excellent communication, organization, and interpersonal skills; ability to perform multiple projects in a fast-paced environment.
  • Highly reliable and flexible, with the ability to adapt quickly to various environments and situations.
  • Travel, to include travel to insecure operating environments, may be required.
  • Experience with cross-border operations.
  • Experience with EU-funded programs preferred.
  • Proven experience using technology to improve financial management systems.
  • Full proficiency in English, French preferred.
